We IBD

For clinicians

A patient brings you a We IBD report? Here is what it contains, how its figures are obtained, and what the app does not do.

In short. We IBD is a journal kept by the patient. These are patient-reported outcomes (PROs), logged day by day rather than reconstructed from memory. The report summarises what they logged, nothing more: no artificial intelligence, no diagnosis, no treatment recommendation. We IBD is not a medical device.

What the report contains

A PDF that the patient prints or sends you themselves, covering 21 days (free version) or 180 days (full version). In order:

  • Header: period, number of documented days, tracking profile (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, IBS or simple tracking), app version.
  • Stools: total and average per documented day, Bristol scale distribution, blood (by level), urgency, nocturnal stools, incontinence, average pain.
  • Flares declared by the patient: number and duration.
  • General state: fatigue, stress, sleep, weight, temperature (days with fever ≥ 38 °C), extra-intestinal manifestations.
  • Localised pain on a colon diagram, by region.
  • Current treatments and entered lab results (CRP, faecal calprotectin, haemoglobin, ferritin…), with unit and trend.
  • In the full version, a separate exploratory appendix (delays after meals, per-food analyses), labelled "to discuss, not conclusive".

Missing data is written "n/a", never 0. No sentence is generated by a language model: every line is a template filled in by a calculation.

How to read the figures

  • The percentage indicator summarises what the patient logged. It does not measure inflammation and does not replace a calprotectin, a CRP or an endoscopy.
  • The clinical marker is inspired by the Harvey-Bradshaw Index (Crohn's) or the partial Mayo score (ulcerative colitis), adapted to self-report: abdominal mass stays at 0, and the physician's global assessment is replaced by the pain logged by the patient. It is computed day by day, then averaged over the documented days. It is therefore not comparable to a score taken in consultation.
  • Links between meals and symptoms are coincidences in time, never causes.

Every formula, weight and threshold is published on the Methodology page.

What the app does not do

  • It makes no diagnosis and detects no flare in the medical sense.
  • It recommends no treatment and no food exclusion.
  • It sends nothing to a clinician: the patient shares their report themselves, if they wish.

Patient data

Everything stays encrypted on the patient's phone. The only exception, on iPhone: syncing with their own iCloud account, if they turn it on themselves. There is no account, no server and no audience measurement. See the privacy policy.

Explore it in ten minutes

The app is free. On first launch, tap "Explore with sample data": a fictitious eight-week record opens, with nothing to enter. The "Report" tab shows the document a patient would bring you.
